COVENTRY City stars Matty Godden and Callum O’Hare joined more than 200 children at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, where they answered the youngsters’ questions and celebrated two pupils’ success.
The visit came about after St Patrick’s pupils Ellarose and Piper helped the school win Coventry City Council’s Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge.
The pair made a short video showcasing their support for the Sky Blues and it was crowned the winner through a public vote.
The Active Schools Challenge aimed to get children and families active in local green spaces and parks, with more than 70,000 people supporting over 100 local schools.
After meeting the two youngsters, Godden and O’Hare took part in an afternoon assembly, with students asking them about their training routines and what it takes to become a professional footballer.
They also asked about how to deal with adversity and respond to bullies.
And students and city-supporting staff gave renditions of Coventry matchday songs ‘We’ve got O’Hare’ and ‘Super Matty Godden’, before the Coventry stars visited each year group in their classrooms for a team photo.
Mark McLoughlin, St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School principal, said: “It was a privilege to host Callum and Matt and inspiring for the students to meet and talk to two people who have achieved great success through their hard work.
“Their answers gave us all a window into the life of a professional footballer, but also showed there are some essential values that overlap across all walks of life, and I’d like to thank them for their generosity in sharing those insights.
“The visit has been a great way to thank Ellarose and Piper for their efforts in the Go Parks competition as young advocates not only of the school but of young people across the city.”
