COVENTRY City players are supporting a project which keeps students safe when walking home from school.
The step together scheme places qualified youth workers on routes near anti-social behaviour hotspots which students pass to get home.
Fabio Tavares and Liam Kitching walked part of the route between Grace Academy and Cardinal Wiseman School on September 24, highlighting the importance of the scheme.
They were joined by youth workers, teachers and students marched under the banner of the Step Together Programme and the region-wide #MyTomorrow campaign.
The campaign aims to empower youth voice, particularly around safety concerns.
Data showed that violence peaks at the end of the school day.
The youth organisation which oversees Step Together in Coventry is Sky Blues in the Community (SBitC), along with Coventry City Council, the education sector, West Midlands Police and the West Midlands Violence Reduction (VRP) and Crime Commissioner, Empower-U, Guiding Young Minds.
The scheme has been running since 2022 and now includes a second route which covers the area around the Sidney Stringer Academy into the city and Hillfields.
The Step Together routes have a proven track record of reducing ASB and are funded by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner and the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership and delivered by Sky Blues in the Community and its Partners.
