COVENTRY City’s match against West Bromwich Albion has been postponed with all Championship fixtures cancelled this weekend as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
A statement released by the EFL this morning confirmed that all matches scheduled for this weekend have been called off.
That includes Coventry City’s clash with West Bromwich Albion which was due to take place on Saturday, September 10.
The EFL statement reads: “Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.
“This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.
“Further information, in respect of how football, Clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.
“Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course.”
Non-League and grassroots fixtures have also off been called off.
The late Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral yesterday afternoon, a Buckingham Palace statement confirmed.
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history and her Platinum Jubilee was marked in the UK and around the World earlier this year.
