COREY and Casper Platt-May will have a special memorial football tournament played in their honour next month.

Organisers say they plan to bring ten of the city’s under-sevens (U7s) teams together for a six-a-side competition at Copsewood Sports Ground on Saturday, July 21.

The tournament is due to take place the day after Coventry City under-23s will play Copsewood in the Casper and Corey Memorial Cup match.

One of the football-loving brothers, Corey, played for Copsewood Lions U7s – the team hosting the event.

Organisers announced all proceeds will be donated to the family and their chosen charities as well as a Corey and Casper memorial plaque on the club grounds.

There has been a flood of support from across the city for the grieving Platt-May family.

The brothers were killed after being hit by Robert Brown, 53, on February 22 in Longfellow Road, Coventry.

Brown has since been sentenced to nine years for causing their deaths – a charge to which he pleaded guilty.

Following the controversial sentence, there were calls – including from Corey and Casper’s parents – for Brown to receive a life term.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, July 21 at 10am – games starting at 11am – at the Copsewood Sports Ground in Allard Way.

Manager of the Copsewood Lions U7s Matthew Hopkins said he wants the events to ‘provide some solace for the family.’

He said there will be numerous attractions and fun for the whole family including raffles and a bouncy castle.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, shared a message on Twitter from Lindsay Luke, endorsing the event.

It said: “The tournament is both a celebration of the two beautiful boys’ lives and also a chance to raise money for a memorial plaque at the club and the vital air ambulance.”
