AROUND 150 apprentices will be studying away from the city as Coventry College has transferred its provision to the WCG.
The news comes after the college was forced to stop offering new apprenticeships following a recent Ofsted report.
The college received an overall ‘requires improvement’ rating but its apprenticeships were judged as ‘inadequate’, with the report saying too many did not receive the training they needed to be successful.
The WCG has four colleges across Warwickshire and the apprentices who move over to the group will be primarily trained at Rugby College or Royal Leamington Spa College.
Those affected were from a wide range of sectors such as construction, auto-care, motor vehicle and catering, early years, ICT and accountancy, with most of these apprenticeships available with WCG.
Employers will have the opportunity to request students be sent to Moreton Morrell College or Warwick Trident College.
A Coventry College spokesperson said apprentices would not be expected to need to travel to Evesham College or Pershore College as WCG has the resources to deliver training for the apprentices at its Warwickshire colleges.
Coventry College’s principal and CEO Carol Thomas said this was a ‘fantastic opportunity’ for apprentices.

“We have an existing collaboration with Coventry College and aim to continue to work together in the best interests of the Coventry and Warwickshire region.”
