Coventry council gives advice on how residents can keep warm

COVENTRY City Council have launched a new page on its website aimed at offering advice and support on how to keep homes warm during the colder months.

The Keep warm Keep well webpage has sections with advice on staying warm, money advice for the cost of living, staying safe, staying connected and looking after your health.

The council advises that residents ensure their home heating systems are ready for the winter.

Having your boiler and gas appliances checked by a professional is vital to prevent any malfunctions, such as dangerous carbon monoxide leaks, and to ensure they are running efficiently.

In case of frozen pipes, it is also recommended to store a couple of bottles of clean water in your home.

Additionally, the council suggests layering your clothing, as wearing several thin layers is more effective in keeping warm than wearing one thick garment.

Natural fabrics such as wool and cotton provide excellent insulation.

Ensuring your home is properly insulated is also key to staying warm and reducing energy costs.

Make sure your loft, walls, and windows are well insulated, and have your boiler regularly serviced to keep it running smoothly.

Heating the rooms where you spend the most time to at least 18°C is essential to maintaining comfort and preventing the cold from affecting your health.

Finally, the council recommends keeping bedroom windows closed at night to avoid letting the cold air in, especially when temperatures drop.
