AN ESPORTS organisation from Coventry is celebrating after winning an international award for promoting women’s engagement in the industry.

Coventry Crosshairs, who have a seven-player Women in Esports team, has been named the Top Collegiate Organisation at The*GameHERs Awards 2022.

The team, who are all students from Coventry College, found out about their award at an online ceremony, where they beat off competition from four other finalists to scoop the prize.

The Crosshairs was praised for its commitment to fostering positivity, building an encouraging and inclusive community, and increasing opportunities for young people in the esports industry.

Founded in 2019, the Crosshairs has 50 student members who are studying either Level Two Game Design and Level Three Esports at Coventry College.

The team plays and streams games such as Overwatch 2, Rocket League and Valorant, and its women in Esports side recently reached the semi-finals of the British Esports Student Championships Overwatch 2 tournament.

Team member Alice Moroto said: “I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing team at Coventry Crosshairs.

“I am so happy to have had this experience, being able to achieve so much within such a short amount of time and we could not have done it without each other.

“Winning makes me so excited for women and marginalised genders in esports as we are making a difference one step a time.”
