Coventry Cyrenians Trustee celebrates charity's 50 years by running marathon

Coventry Editorial 21st Apr, 2023   0

A COVENTRY Cyrenians trustee will be braving the London Marathon this Sunday (April 23) to raise funds for the charity on its 50th anniversary.

Sally Eason has been part of the Cyrenians for over a decade, helping them support homeless and vulnerably housed people across the city as they rebuild their lives.

The charity provides a roof over people’s heads but also supports them to gain the skills they need to live independently.

Now in its 50th year, Sally and her colleagues are finding the demand for the Cyrenians’ services to be higher than ever amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Sally is a keen runner and is part of the Northbrook AC running club in Allesley.

She completed the London Marathon in 2018, raising more than £1,000 for the Cyrenians, and has already beaten that total this time around.

She was meant to return in 2020 and had completed all of her training but the pandemic scuppered her plans.

Sally said: “We’ve held a few events to celebrate our 50 years, but it’s bittersweet that we’re needed even more than ever.

“Hopefully we can raise as much money as possible through this marathon as it’s very difficult to get funding for smaller organisations.

“People become homeless for so many reasons and through no fault of their own so it’s vital this service can continue.”
