A COVENTRY veteran’s daughter is hoping his legacy will be remembered.

Heather Davison is threw a ‘peace picnic’ today (June 6) in honour of the 80th anniversary of D Day.

It was expected over 300 people attended, with local care homes and schools being invited.

Cardinal Newman Catholic school organised the event.

Dennis Davison fought in the second world war in the D Day landings in Normandy when he was 21.

Dennis passed away aged 96 in 2019 and since then Heather has ‘picked up the batton to remain his legacy’.

He set up the Normandy Day UK charity to raise awareness of D Day and its importance.

Heather said her dad wanted to invest in future generations, so she is focusing on getting the younger generation to get involved.

“My dad and many others fought for peace, so it is important that we can do what ever we can to remember that.

“He wanted to see the world as a better place.”

Heather is the chair of the Peace Orchard which was set up by her dad in Coundon Hall Park in Coventry to promote peace.

Dennis created the Coventry Peace Orchard in 2017 after being inspired by similar orchards planted in France.
