COVENTRIANS gathered outside the City Council House on Saturday, November 12, to demand climate justice as part of the Global Day of Action around the COP27 UN global climate summit.
The demonstration was organised by the Coventry hub of the Climate Justice Coalition, which is made up of people across the UK.
The Coventry demonstrators were among around 100,000 people across the country who joined in different rallies.
Speakers on the day included Coventry TUC president Jane Nellist, Robyn Mc Sharry from Green New Deal Rising and Martina Irwin from Coventry Action Network.
Those who gave speeches aimed to highlight the need for a ‘fast and globally fair transition to a climate-friendly economy’.
They also discussed the steps Coventry can take to build a safe, healthy world.
Green Party Councillor Stephen Gray, who also spoke at the rally, said: “We urgently need greener energy, measures to help people save energy, and to make it easier and safer for people to walk, cycle, or take public transport, and we are making the case for this at every level of government.”
