A COVENTRY who dangerously overloaded his vehicle with alcohol has been fined more than £2,000.
Dilbagh Heer of Clay Lane, Upper Stoke pleaded guilty by post to Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on to the offence after he was stopped by officers from Solihull Council’s Trading Standards.
The 64-year-old was fined £1,584 for the overloading offence and ordered to pay £748 in costs and £170 victim surcharge, totalling £2,502.
Mr Heer was stopped during a multi-agency vehicle operation at the NEC on April 27 this year, when his vehicle was found to be 33% overloaded with alcohol.
Overloading a vehicle poses significant risk to the driver and other road users.
It puts massive strain on the vehicle’s tyres, causing them to overheat and wear out quickly; can makes the vehicle less stable; difficult to steer and take longer to stop; and voids a drivers’ insurance cover.
