Coventry entrepreneur starts groundbreaking new garden business

COVENTRY entrepreneur and former Miss Warwickshire bodybuilding champion Sara Thompson has launched her latest online venture just weeks off her 60th birthday.

Sara decided not to put down a deposit on a house and instead has poured her life savings into, the first website of its kind in Britain which she hopes will transform the industry.

She has created her current businesses on the back of her existing gardener hire firm, which she started in 2019.

She said: “I put out an advert and there was so much demand, and during the pandemic, there was more work than ever because the kids were off school and people were using their gardens earlier than normal.

“I knew I was going to have to take on some labourers and that’s what got me thinking about the new business idea.

“I quickly realised there are so many gardeners looking for work and there are customers who can’t find them.”

The site matches customers to gardeners across Britain without the need for home visits, with customers uploading their photos and description of the work and gardeners they are matched with can provide a quote.

“There are loads of sites out there which are offering a similar service but where the gardener has to sign up to the site and the customers have to tick endless boxes and the gardeners don’t get to put a quote in.

“I want it to become one the big go-to sites that people know about and use at the start of the gardening season every year.”

Sara’s previous careers have included spending 16 years as a singer-songwriter and owning a ladies’ lounge business but after a decade in a desk job, she decided to revisit her love of building successful companies.

“My advice for women of a certain age is to just go for it.

“Whatever your passion, just do it because what have you got to lose.

“There is nothing worse than regret and age is just a mindset after all.”
