A NEW study conducted by insurance company Budget Direct found Coventry has the the fifth best cost of living in the UK.

Budget Direct conducted a study to find the average cost of living at cities across the UK, measuring factors such as transport, utilities (including gas, electricity and water), and rent against the average salaries of citizens.

The average monthly salary in Coventry after tax is currently £2,250, while the cost of basic living is £780.94 over the same period.

This means the average person living in Coventry would have £1,469.06 in their pockets after subtracting the cost of living every month.

The study found Oxford picked up the most money in the UK after subtracting the cost of living, with the average person picking up £2,063.16 every month.

Glasgow were second with residents picking up £1,821.85 after the cost of living is taken out, while Reading (£1,781.53) and Bristol (£1,627.44) came in third and fourth cheapest.
