COVENTRY artist Nyasha Daley will be premiering a new art documentary, ‘Black, Queer and Done’ at the Belgrade Theatre on Friday.

The film explores how Black, LGBT+ people are portrayed in the media, Arts and cultural sectors, featuring contributors and artists from Coventry and the rest of Britain as well as Africa and the US.

It features contributions from focus groups gathered last year with LGBT+ arts professionals and practitioners through several online video conferences.

These sessions informed three themes, My Queer Me, In-Between-Ness & It’s Giving Thanks, and formed the basis of a commission call-out to Black, Queer artists across Britain.

Artists then responded with spoken word, music, dance, and aerial work contributions.

Nyasha said: “I’m incredibly proud of this film; the commentary and commissions are brilliant, interesting, and perhaps different to what someone might expect from the film’s title.

“We’re hoping that we will attract a diverse audience; the film explores themes that would be of interest to Black people, Queer people and those who would consider themselves allies”.

The film, which was commissioned by Coventry Pride and funded by Arts Council England’s Cultural Recovery Fund, will be screened at 7.30pm, with a red carpet, music, entertainment and popcorn on sale at the event.

Tickets are £5 each.
