Coventry flush with cash as funding for accessible toilets granted

Coventry Editorial 1st Mar, 2023   0

TWO new Changing Places accessible toilets will be installed in Coventry to help improve the lives of people with severe disabilities.

More than £140,000 of government funding has been awarded to install the toilets at Coombe Abbey Park and War Memorial Park with work expected to be completed by next March.

Coventry City Council is one of 64 local authorities across the country to have secured funding from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

In total, the £7million of government funding will build 120 new Changing Places toilets in England in areas they are most needed.

It is part of the wider £30.5million Changing Places scheme, which is set to provide over 600 new facilities, bringing the total number of accessible toilets across England to 1,900.

They are fitted with specialist equipment such as a hoist and changing bench and provide enough space for up to two carers to support the person with a disability to use the Changing Place.

The facilities will enable those with severe disabilities to go out shopping and plan a day out of travel without needing to worry whether there are suitable facilities.

The first round of changing places funding, which was rolled out last year, will see facilities installed at The Albany Theatre, Shopmobility and Tesco Arena.
