COVENTRY is the city with the largest increase in break-ins over the summer holidays every year, new data has revealed.
A study by A-Plan Insurance showed crime rates had increased by 34 per cent during the summer months.
Home Office police data shows the number of burglaries in Coventry rose from 136 in June to an average of 182 each month throughout July, August, and early September.
This is despite nearby Warwickshire reporting the lowest rate of annual residential burglaries of anywhere in the West Midlands.
The hotspot list was calculated by analysing how each city’s crime rates change throughout July and August compared to the first half of the year.
In total, 62 per cent of the cities analysed reported a significant rise in break-ins over the summer holidays.
Homes are normally targeted in the summer as families travel abroad or to other parts of the country for up to weeks at a time.
