Coventry homeless charity launched Winter appeal

OVER THE PAST 50 years, Coventry Cyrenians have been helping homeless and vulnerable people across Coventry and Warwickshire.

In a recent newsletter the charity said it has not seen such a high demand for its services as it does now.

Coventry Cyrenians have launched its Winter Appeal 2024/2025 after having to turn away hundreds of eligible people who need support.

The appeal is aiming to raise thousands of pounds to provide support and shelter for those most in need.

Caron Williams, Chief Executive said: “Over the last year, about 700 eligible people in need of temporary accommodation have applied for our help. But we don’t have the resources to assist everyone.

“While we were able to help around a third of those people, unfortunately we had to turn away the rest. It’s a really worrying situation.”

Cash raised in the appeal will also help pay for the Christmas Day event which is held by volunteers at the Methodist Central Hall in Coventry.

Last year, on Christmas Day the charity served around 150 hot meals and 12 takeaway meals.

This year the event is open to the public from 11am to 3pm with dinner being served 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
