PEOPLE on a Coventry housing estate are being invited to help create a huge mural to celebrate the people and places of Tile Hill.
Tile Hill has been chosen by the City of Culture-funded street art collective, ‘In Paint We Trust’, to be part of a series of murals appearing around Coventry.
The mural will be created for the ‘Tile Hill People and Places’ project, part of a 100 metre long blank wall facing a sports field at the Ponderosa in Tile Hill North.
The mural will include, Tile Hill’s boxing tradition, the woods and green spaces and the life of community leader, the late Terry Harvey, who was liked and admired by many.
The first session is starting today with the rest of the work being carried out throughout the month.
Organisers are appealing for adult residents aged 14 or over who would like to learn how to spray paint to join in with the painting on Saturday 19th March or Saturday 26th March.

The project is funded by Coventry City of Culture and led by the Tile Hill Community Partnership and Tile Hill North Residents Association.
Deputy Residents’ Association Chair, Joy Warren said, “We’re so pleased the Ponderosa mural is finally happening.
“It’s been planned for years, but delayed by the pandemic and the search for funding. It wouldn’t have happened without City Culture funding.”
Michael Batchelor is one of the artists from the City of Culture-funded street art collective, ‘In Paint We Trust’, who has created murals in Coventry and across the world.
He said, “It’s important that street art reflects the feelings and concerns of local people.
“That’s why we love to involve residents in designing and preparing our pieces. Street art is our way of bringing top quality art out of the gallery and into communities.”
