COVENTRY landmarks will be providing light on the year’s darkest and longest night as part of the NSPCC’s ‘Walk for Children’ campaign.
The charity is asking Coventrians to put their foot forward on Wednesday, December 21 on a sponsored 5km walk to raise cash for the NSPCC as well as Childline.
As part of the event, landmarks including The Yard, Whittle Arch and Christchurch Spire will be illuminated bright green.
On average, two children a minute contact Childline to report incidents such as abuse, neglect, self-harm, and anxiety.
Aran Nugent, Marketing & Events at The Yard, said: “Childline will receive calls from children asking for help on what should be the most magical day of the year.
“No child should ever have to live in fear this Christmas. Visibility is a great tool to shed light on those who are in vulnerable situations.”
The NSPCC’s community fundraising manager for Coventry, Amanda Synott, added: “We’re extremely grateful for the support given by all the landmarks here in Coventry.
“The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority of its income, which is why we’re calling on people in Coventry to support the NSPCC and Childline this festive season.
“By joining our Walk for Children, every step people take and every pound they raise will help Childline be here for all children, even on the darkest night of the year.”
