A COVENTRY man already serving a prison sentence for sex offences has been convicted of the rape of a teenager.

Zoaeir Tamari, of Queen Mary’s Road, was jailed in February and is currently serving nine-and-a-half years for human trafficking for the purpose of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and the sexual assault of two young girls aged 13 and 14.

After a trial lasting four days, the 21-year-old was found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl at a flat in Foleshill in August 2014.

And at Leamington Justice Centre on Thursday, July 6, Tamari was sentenced to a further eight years to begin halfway through his existing nine and a half year jail term.

He will also be placed on the Sex Offender Register for life.

Detective Inspector Jo Floyd, from the force’s public protection unit, said: “This is another victory for our CSE team who work tirelessly along with Coventry’s Horizon team to protect young people from sexual predators such as Tamari.

“Young people can find themselves in desperate situations, often through drink or drugs, but no means no, and rape is a crime for which we will use the full force of the law to bring offenders to justice.

“There are a number of agencies who can help young people and their parents or carers to report incidents and get the support they need.”
