A COVENTRY man and his brother have been found guilty of sexual abuse more than 40 years ago.

At Leicester Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, March 21), John Mackenzie, 60, of Pondthorpe, Willenhall, Coventry, has been found guilty of five counts of indecency with a child, three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

His brother 57-year-old Peter Mackenzie, of Borve, Isle of Lewis, was convicted of six counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, five counts of rape and one count of causing actual bodily harm.

The brothers began abusing their victim, who is now an adult, in Leicester in the 1970s.

It began when she was a child and continued until she was around 14 years old.

She reported the abuse in March 2017 and an investigation began.

Detective constable Anna Blockley, the investigating officer, said: “Peter and John McKenzie almost worked in partnership when carrying out their abuse, which has had a substantial impact on the victim.

“It began when she was a child and carried on until she was a teenager, when she eventually told them it wasn’t going to happen anymore.

“She has shown great courage in speaking to police about what happened, which has resulted in the brothers being brought to justice.”

Both Peter and John Mackenzie will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on April 29.
