A COVENTRY man said he was lost for words after seeing the full impact of the earthquake in Turkey.
Langar Aid project coordinator Inderjit Singh spent a week in the South West of the devastated country, helping to distribute over 30tonnes of water to those affected.
Inderjit, who went to Turkey with Khalsa Aid, was also helping to hand out packs containing items such as sanitised towels and toiletries.
The death toll in Turkey has recently risen to over 48,000 as a result of the disaster on February 6.
Inderjit said: “You see these sorts of things in films but when you see the ruined buildings and people who have lost so much it really strikes you.
“There are no words to describe it, these people had everything at their fingertips and in a second it was all turned to rubble.
“It’s sad and ridiculous that people have to wait for water, but when we distributed it people were so grateful we were there for them.
“It was the least we could do and I would definitely go back to help some more.”
Khalsa Aid has been in Turkey offering a helping hand to those impacted by the earthquake since it first hit.
Volunteers like Imranjit buy the required amount of water and distribute it to the affected areas of the country.
Khalsa Aid is an international organisation which aims to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world.
Langar Aid is Khalsa Aid’s long-term relief project based in Coventry which provides aid to homeless and vulnerable people across the UK.
Last week, Khalsa Aid announced it had reached its fundraising target for its Turkey appeal but would be continuing to deliver aid on the ground.
