Coventry man jailed for robbing blind woman in broad daylight

A COVENTRY man has been jailed after he robbed a blind woman in broad daylight.

Steven Ball followed the woman, who is in her 40s and walks with a white stick, into the city centre before pouncing in White Street on March 15.

The 42-year-old pushed her, grabbed her coat and went through her pockets to steal £25.

Two passers-by recognised Ball and he was arrested later that day from his home address in Adelaide Street.

He denied the offence but was also picked out in an ID parade by two witnesses.

Ball pleaded guilty on October 25 and two days later was sentenced to three years in prison.

Investigating officer PC James Rees said: “This was an absolutely callous and cowardly act which has hugely affected the victim.

“It has completely dented her confidence, leaving her struggling to sleep.

“She is far more cautious about going outside on her own and has to reply on others around her.

“I hope she is comforted to know her assailant is behind bars.”
