A COVENTRY man has been arrested on suspicion of terror offences in relation to three other men who fled the city to Syria last year.

Officers from West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit arrested a 19-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism.

The arrest is in connection with three men from Coventry ? Ali Kalantar, Mohammed Ismail and Rashid Amani – who travelled to Syria in March 2014. They were believed to be engaged in the conflict. Both Kalantar and Amani have since been reported killed in the fighting.

The man is currently being questioned under section 38 of the Terrorism Act 2000 at a West Midlands police station.

In a statement, police have confirmed there is no risk to the public in relation to the arrest and no  searches of premises has been conducted in relation to these matters.
