A MAN has thanked a homelessness charity in Coventry for helping turn his life around.
Dave said he would go four or five days without eating before Emmaus Coventry and Warwickshire helped him get back on his feet.
The 56 year old needed stability and a place to live after he lost his job and was unable to pay rent.
Dave said: “I slept on the streets for a while but I saw how unsafe it was, so decided to stay hidden and live along the canal banks, sleeping under bridges.”
Emmaus provides a home, support and work opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness.
After sleeping rough for a few months, Dave met a man who was on holiday in his barge – the man helped Dave access support from a charity which led him to Emmaus where he has been living for the past six months.
Dave added: “I’m taking time to stop and think about what I actually need in life: a room, food, some spending money, and a work routine.
“For many people, that might not be enough, but for now, it is for me. I feel welcome and safe.”
Dave helps run the charity’s shop in Coventry.
