A MAN has died after being hit by a car in Coventry while his family has paid a heart-breaking tribute.

As we reported on Monday, Kerry Wester, 58, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Vauxhall Insignia car on Binley Road in Stoke at around 7.15pm on Sunday (November 18).

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Mr Wester died on Monday (November 19) with family by his side.

Police are today appealing for information following the incident near to the junction of Raleigh Road.

Mr Wester’s family has released a picture from his birthday earlier this year and paid tribute to him: “Kerry was my cousin, a single man who lived independently, but who would visit regularly.

“He would either walk or cycle into Coventry city centre along Binley Road, pretty much on a daily basis.

“Kerry had a passion for building model figures and painting them and he was well-known at the Games Workshop store in Coventry.

“He watched all of our children grown up and he was an integral part of our family. It’s such a shock this has happened.

“Our last conversation was about the darker nights and how he wasn’t going to ride his bicycle any more as he didn’t think it was safe.

“This is so tragic and it has impacted us all. He will be sadly missed.”

A 29-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury while driving dangerously and under the influence of drugs, has been released pending further investigation.

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation unit by emailing [email protected] or via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am to midnight.
