A COVENTRY man who killed his own cousin during a drunken rage last September has been jailed for five years.

Harjinder Singh Dhillon, of Hayes Lane, Exhall, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court today (March 28) after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of 48-year-old Rajinder Singh Gill two weeks earlier.

The 44-year-old admitted beating Mr Gill following an argument on Monday 26 September after he had forced his way into his victim’s home on Edmund Road, Foleshill.

A post mortem examination revealed the father-of-three died from multiple blunt trauma injuries and alcoholic liver disease.

The court heard that a friend had raised the alarm when he realised Mr Gill was badly injured, but sadly he was already dead by the time emergency services arrived.

Detective Sergeant Angela Baggott, from Force CID, said: “This is a tragic case where alcohol has played a large part in the outcome.

“Dhillon will now have to live with his conscience as well as the loss of his cousin.”
