Coventry man who stabbed his friend in drink-fuelled frenzy is jailed

Coventry Editorial 10th Feb, 2021   0

A MAN who launched an unprovoked drink-fuelled attack on his friend, stabbing him in the head and chest, has been jailed.

Peter Carrigan had been out drinking the night before and decided to go round to his ex-partner’s home in the early hours, climbing in through her bathroom window.

His ex was awoken by the noise and was startled to find Carrigan inside.

When he also found his friend in the house, he grabbed two knives from the kitchen.

The 31-year-old punched and stabbed the man several times during the brutal ordeal in Coventry in October 2020.

Carrigan forced his beaten and bloodied friend downstairs, continuing to punch him while his terrified ex-girlfriend attempted to flee.

However Carrigan grabbed her, put his hands round her throat and squeezed so hard she was unable to breathe and almost passed out.

He then slapped her around the head.

It was around 3am when the wounded man was able to escape, seeking shelter behind a hedge outside while he called for emergency services.

Officers arrested Carrigan later that day after finding him hiding under a children’s bunk bed in the house in blood-stained clothes.

During interview, Carrigan ssid he could not get over the relationship, which he claimed had been ‘on and off’.

Carrigan, of Holyhead Road, Coventry, pleaded guilty to wounding and actual bodily harm.

He was jailed for 12 years at Warwick Crown Court, with an additional three years on licence following his release.

He will serve at least eight years before being considered for parole.

Det Supt Tom Parker from West Midlands Police CID, said: “Carrigan now has a lengthy prison sentence to consider his vile actions. I commend the victims for their bravery, and I am proud that our team worked tirelessly to ensure Carrigan faced justice for his wicked crimes.”
