Coventry man's 'tears of joy' after winning £55k Ford Mustang Mach-1 and £35k cash

A COVENTRY man broke down in tears after winning a £55,000 Ford Mustang Mach-1 and £35,000 in cash which he said could keep his dream of becoming a dad alive.

Todd Ethersee said he became very emotional after Christian Williams from competitions company BOTB knocked on his door with news of his prize knowing he had not only dreamed of owning a Ford Mustang Mach-1 for years.

But it is the cash prize which could potentially be life-changing.

Todd, 38, has been with his wife Katherine, 35, for 20 years and they are desperate to become parents.

They have been going through IVF treatment but after a number of delays caused by the pandemic the couple are now reaching the stage where they may have to fund any further treatments on their own.

Todd, a mortgage co-ordinator, said: “It has been heart-breaking and we have been through a lot but we are determined to keep on trying.

“This win certainly takes away some of the stress because we now know we can afford to explore all the options open to us and to keep on trying.

“I’m hoping this wonderful news marks a turning point for us. It’s Katherine’s birthday in August, our wedding anniversary in the same month and our 20th anniversary of getting together on New Year’s Eve so there is lots to be positive about and now we can make sure those occasions are extra special.”

BOTB hands over the keys to two stunning cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Other recent winners have bagged a quad bike, a holiday to Las Vegas and more.

The company, listed on the stock market, was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £42million of cars so far.

Todd said he was thrilled with the news after Christian disturbed him on a work call as he knocked on the door to spring the surprise.

“It was a surreal moment but one which I will never forget and I think just all the roller-coaster of emotions over the last few years caught up with me.

“I didn’t expect to win at all and just felt so overwhelmed with something so good happening to us.”

Todd said the couple were hoping to do a road trip maybe to Scotland to celebrate Katherine’s birthday and their wedding anniversary this summer adding the Mustang was just the car to ensure it was a trip to remember.

Christian, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: “It is a fantastic job to surprise winners each week but some do really pull at the heartstrings and Todd was one of those. He was very emotional and understandably so.

“He and his wife Katherine have been through a lot but are such a strong couple together. We are so delighted that this money might make such a big difference to them and that Todd gets to enjoy owning his dream car. If anyone deserves it he does!”
