Coventry MP backs bid to open new Post Office in Cheylesmore

A COVENTRY man’s plans to open a new Post Office in Cheylesmore have received support from Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana.

The Daventry Road Budgens owner, Karthik Varatharajan, has applied to open a Post Office at his store, and a petition appealing for this to become a reality has been signed by over 1,250 people.

Coventrians living in Cheylesmore have been calling for a new post office in the area following the closure of the one on Daventry Road last May.

Earlier this week, Ms Sultana presented the petition to Parliament urging the House of Commons to support a new Post Office in Cheylesmore.

Residents feel the next-nearest Post Office service is often overcrowded and too far away, making it inaccessible for those with mobility issues.

Mr Varatharajan, who started the petition, said: “Local people were really affected when the old Daventry Road Post Office closed.

“Now they have to travel much further to find the nearest Post Office and often have to wait in long queues to be seen.

“I am hopeful that now this petition has been presented to Parliament my application for a Post Office will be approved.”
