SHOPKEEPERS in Coventry are being encouraged to compete in a national competition by a city MP.

Zarah Sultana, Labour’s MP for Coventry South, has urged shop owners to enter the Best Small Shops Competition.

The contest is open to any small shop operating in the UK. The competition is free to enter and all shops who enter will also be promoted to consumers through an online directory.

Shopkeepers can nominate their businesses until September 11 via bestsmallshops.co.uk.

A shortlist will be announced in October with winners announced in November.

The judges will be looking for evidence of a small shops’ entrepreneurial spirit, ways that they have been innovative in their business and what they have done to have a lasting positive impact on their community.

Ms Sultana said: “Coventry is home to many fantastic independent small shops, but the Coronavirus pandemic has presented a huge challenge to them. This competition is a great way to celebrate their contribution to our local community and economy.”
