COVENTRY’S Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is set to be transformed into an immersive, nature-inspired wonderland this summer with the launch of ‘JOY… inspired by nature.’

The exhibition, running from July 19 to September 22, and is designed to appeal to the senses and uplift the hearts and minds of all who attend.

Curated by Nicola Richardson and Marianne Taviner of Vortex Creates, ‘JOY… inspired by nature’ will showcase a dazzling array of new works from their studio.

The exhibition features a blend of painting, photography, sculpture, video, and audio installations that will turn the gallery into a thought-provoking celebration of the environment.

Fifteen local artists have also been given the opportunity to exhibit their eye-catching creations, contributing to the exhibition’s eclectic and joyful atmosphere.

The project highlights the profound impact of the physical environment on wellbeing, demonstrating how aesthetics can cultivate joy.

This exhibition has been made possible through the support of an Arts Council England Project Grant and Culture Coventry.

Among the contributing artists, self-taught costume designer Abeda Begum has helped create some of the exhibition’s standout pieces.

Coventry-based artist and developer Ashley James Brown has composed a unique soundscape for one of the major installations, while botanist Gemma Costin has developed a scent-scape that will guide visitors through the exhibition with fragrant cues.

Nicola Richardson from Vortex Creates said: “The past six months have been an incredible time propagating a textile garden as fabric botanists using and recycling our stock of eclectic materials.

“Can’t wait to see it bloom in the gallery and bring our style of colourful curation to the Herbert Art Gallery.”

In addition to the main exhibition, the gallery will host a variety of summer activities and art masterclasses, including the JOY family launch event on Saturday, July 20.

This free drop-in event will feature hands-on activities such as making seed bombs for wildflower gardens, creating colorful stone art, and crafting playful paper masks.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore ‘Dippy’s Jurassic Playground,’ a free early years exhibition inspired by the famous Dippy the Dinosaur.
