Coventry Music Museum to celebrate third birthday with special city guest

NOVEMBER will mark a special time for the Coventry Music Museum as the popular city venue will mark its third birthday.

Celebratory shenanigans and a special guest performance from Coventry’s own singing sensation Mark Rattray will ring out around the Walsgrave Road venue at noon on Saturday, November 12.

Known for his superb voice and famous for being the last winner of TV talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1990, Mark – who now works as a paramedic – will cut the cake as part of the Big Lottery Fund sponsored Sounding Off event.

Visitors to the museum to mark the special occasion will get a chance to quiz the former singing star as museum director Pete Chambers BEM will host an open session asking Mark about his career.

Since opening, the museum has attracted more than 12,000 visitors from across the Midlands, the UK and sixty-six countries worldwide.

The venue has twice been awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence and has remained in the top two best ranked attractions in Coventry and featured in the top five best attraction in the West Midlands.

Talking about the landmark date, Pete Chambers BEM said: “I think we have done well for a small independent museum run entirely by volunteers.

“I’m proud to have helped make this happen – long may we continue, especially as we journey deeper into the City of Culture bid where we hope Coventry music will play an important part.”

The Coventry Music Museum is open from Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
