Coventry music venue given £5,000 cash boost

A COVENTRY music venue has received nearly £5000 from a national charity, with the cash going towards a new lighting desk and trussing to hang their lights system.

The Tin music and arts received the cash boost from Music Venue Trust (MVT) as part of its pipeline investment fund.

Following the pandemic, the increased costs of materials meant the funding couldn’t cover everything needed for the upgrades.

A spokesperson for the Tin music and arts said this cash puts them on par with much larger venues.

“Tech-wise, we are now able to offer visiting artists and our local music community a really professional set up and this will give our audiences a great experience.”

Established last year, the pipeline investment fund was raised through ticket sale donations from MVT’s ‘Revive Live’ programme of gigs around the UK.

Small-scale grant applications of up to £5,000 were handed out to British grassroots music venues to support projects such as lights, sound, access, ventilation and minor building alterations.

The money was also allocated for staff and training such as workforce diversification, succession planning, skills development and strengthening local community ties.

The first round of payments in December saw 11 grassroots venues receive £40,000 between them, and a further 14 have been awarded almost £70,000 in the second round.

The fund prioritises support for organisations that may have been excluded from other available funding.
