Coventry named as one of the highest-spending authorities in the UK on street lighting

Coventry Editorial 18th Jan, 2021   0

COVENTRY should be shining brightly after research showed the city has one of the highest spending amounts on street lighting.

The figures come from Smart Lighting Industries which sourced the information from the Office of National Statistics’ (ONS) local authority spending data.

They put Coventry at seventh in the league table of brightest areas with an annual spend between 2019 and 2020 of £8.343million – some £22 per person.

The highest spending area was Birmingham with Smart Lighting Industries claiming the Second City’s council spent £23.5million in the 12 months.

Making up the top five were Leeds in second, Surrey in third, West Sussex in fourth and Cambridgeshire in fifth. London was sixth.
