Ceilidh fund-raiser for Global Care's 40th anniversary

COVENTRY international children’s charity Global Care will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a ceilidh fund-raiser at Baginton Village Hall from 7.30pm on September 15.

The event is part of the charity’s aim to raise £100,000 to support the needs of marginalised girls in its 40th anniversary year. So far, more than £60,000 has been raised.

The charity was started by Earlsdon’s Ron Newby as a small child sponsorship scheme because he was determined to help abandoned children he had met on a visit to post-conflict Uganda.

Unable to interest existing charities, Ron, who died in 2008, decided to help the youngsters himself.

Over the past 40 years, the charity has improved the lives of thousands of children in 43 countries on four continents.

Ceilidh band No Mean Feet will be among the entertainment on the evening.

Charity CEO John White said: “The pandemic undermined years of progress for girls We want to make our 40th anniversary a year which equips us to keep filling in the gaps for girls, enabling them to overcome the challenges they face, and to flourish.”

Tickets cost £10 or £25 for a family with up to three children under 16.
