Charity spreading Christmas cheer with CovenTree gift appeal

Coventry Editorial 18th Dec, 2023   0

ONE of Coventry’s oldest youth charities has looked to help ensure no child goes without a Christmas present this festive season with its CoventryTree wishlist appeal.

Coventry Boys and Girls Club (CBGC) has provided youth clubs, educational resources, and sporting activities in the city since 1935.

The charity has realised recently that parents feeling the impact of the cost-of-living crisis are struggling to get Christmas presents for their children.

Around one-quarter of children in Coventry are living in relative poverty, according to figures provided by Save the Children UK.

In response, CBGC launched the ‘CovenTree Christmas Wishlist’ appeal earlier this month.

A Christmas Tree was installed at the charity’s headquarters on 50 Whitefriars Street, with people able to visit, take a random tag from the tree with a present suggestion, buy it and return it to CBGC.

Charity manager Laura McNally, who conceived the idea, said: “We’ve been astounded- from toys to games, the gifts keep coming, ensuring that many children will wake up to a wonderful surprise on Christmas Day.”
