Coventry activists travel to Westminster to call for Gaza ceasefire

PASSIONATE activists from Coventry travelled to Westminster yesterday (Thursday), seeking ‘urgent action’ from policymakers to secure an ‘immediate and lasting ceasefire’ in Gaza.

Led by Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana, the group, including students Leila Grebby, 22, and Sadiyah Mukit, 20, engaged in discussions aimed at addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

Organised by prominent aid charities such as Oxfam, Christian Aid, and Action Against Hunger, the lobby day witnessed campaigners from across the UK.

Leila said: “I wanted to represent student students at Coventry University, we all feel very passionate.

“We did a petition calling for a ceasefire and over 100 students signed it in one day.”

Sadiyah said: “Myself and a lot of my family are Muslims, it’s hard to see what other families like us are going through.

“I came to see Zarah because she’s really committed to this issue.

“For example, she has been working with Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP for Tooting to represent our voices in parliament.”

Students and Oxfam campaigners Anmol Maggon and Sriram Manoj joined the advocacy efforts.

Oxfam’s UK government relations adviser, Heather Lafferty said: “It is great that so many people from across the UK have come to Parliament today to call for a ceasefire now and to raise their voices for the people in Gaza who are living each day in fear for their lives.

“We implore MPs to listen to their constituents and do everything in their power to push the UK Government to secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

“A ceasefire is the only way to stop the death and destruction, for hostages to be released safely, and for enough humanitarian aid to reach the millions of people who desperately need it.”

The event, sponsored by Flick Drummond MP, witnessed speakers including Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan and Brendan O’Hara, the SNP foreign affairs spokesperson.
