A COVENTRY author has swapped books for songs to create a musical for a school play.
Aaron Ashmore writes books on Coventry’s history, and has been part of a new project creating lyrics for a school play ‘Lady Godiva’s Birthday Suit: The Musical’.
Based on his first book, Aaron has produced an educational and entertaining play in collaboration with Child Friendly Cov and Coventry Music.
The book will be distributed to schools for free.
Aaron said: “This project is the next step in my ongoing mission to celebrate the heritage of Coventry and instill pride in our city’s children from the young age.”
The play was first performed at Earlsdon Primary School during the year six leavers assembly.
Rebecca Bollands, deputy head at the school said: “We were thrilled to be invited to perform the premiere of the Musical.
“Our pupils have loved learning about the history of our city and the legacy of Lady Godiva.
“We have had the pleasure of reading Aaron’s books over the past few years and it is amazing that he has now started the musical versions.”
Aaron teamed up with local musicians Kevin Stannard and Claire Tyler to create the songs and aimed to evoke the nostalgic feel of primary school songs.
Oliver Emery, illustrator of the book provided illustrations for every character in the play.
Aaron added: “I wanted the songs to have a feel of the kind of songs that I would’ve sung when I was in primary school.
“I like to think that these would fit in with those and give the young people of our city something to sing and shout about.”
