A COVENTRY burglar has been jailed after being caught in the act.
Ashley Kean was caught by West Midlands officers when he tried to flee a house he had broken into in June, 19.
A teenage resident heard glass breaking when she was sitting at home, she hid in a wardrobe and called the police.
Kean, 39, attempted to flee into a neighbour’s garden, but was caught by officers hiding in a shed with a bleeding hand, caused by breaking a window to get into the house.
The blood was an important clue and was matched to another burglary in a different part of Coventry which happened in February.
Kean, of no fixed address, was jailed for 44 months when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court on July 26.
DS Jay Aston, from the Coventry Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Burglary is a serious offence which should carry with it serious consequences.
“This was a harrowing experience for the young victim in this matter, but her bravery and courage in calling the police helped us take Ashley Kean off the streets.
“I hope this sentence can help the people he targeted find closure, as everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home.”
