A COVENTRY charity has been awarded £200,000 for a year-long project for free healthy activities in the city’s parks and community centres.

Positive Youth Foundation (PYF) has been awarded the funding by Heart of England Community Foundation through an inclusive communities fund – and legacy fund if the Commonwealth Games.

The fund was created to address inequalities and make connections between people and organisations and continue the legacy games.

The funding has been over seen by the West Midlands Combined Authority and has been made possible by the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS).

The charity is in partnership with Coventry City Council and will work with 13 organisations to deliver activities to youngsters across Coventry’s 18 wards in parks in spring and summer and centres in autumn and winter.

There will be a mix of sports activities delivered by skilled coaches and youth workers.

The ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge – Paris 2024 Special’ will be held to inspire Coventry residents to be active and explore the city.

Nikki Miles, programme manager at the charity who will lead the project, said: “Positive Youth Foundation is delighted to announce the receipt of Inclusive Communities funding.

“The Go Parks initiative presents an incredible opportunity for collaboration with partners, enabling us to engage with young people citywide, with a focus on promoting physical activity and creative arts.”

Tina Costello, chief executive of Heart of England Community Foundation, added the foundation are proud to support the project which will have a positive impact on thousands of young people across the city.
