A COVENTRY choir received £63,700 from Global’s make some noise, the official charity of Global.
Global announced grants totalling over £2.6million for projects in local communities across the UK, including the Coventry branch of The Choir with No Name.
It is a local choir which involves people who have been impacted by homelessness – the donation will cost the running of the choir for two years.
The funding will provide a lifeline in communities like the choir, with Global charity vision that no-one should face mental health, poverty and homelessness alone.
The Coventry branch of the Choir with No Name has been running since 2022 – it offers a safe space for people to make friends, combat loneliness as well as learn new skills.
Currently having 30 regular members who meet weekly in the Coventry Central Hall where they sing and have a free hot meal.
They also perform gigs across Coventry.
One Coventry choir member said: “The Choir with No Name brings out the very best in me.
“Singing has always been something I wanted to do since childhood, and choir has made my dream come true.”
Choir with No Name’s head of development, Rachel Clare, said the money will allow members to carry on singing and eating together for another two years.
“Homelessness in the UK is continuing to rise, with the ongoing cost of living and housing crises meaning that more and more people are struggling to put food on their table or are facing the reality of losing their homes.
“Thanks to Make Some Noise, we can make sure our vital choir community is there for anyone going through a tough time who needs a safe space to belong, where they can sing their hearts out among friends, eat a hot meal, receive support and signposting, and ultimately feel better, stronger and happier.”
