A COUPLE from Binley in Coventry have launched a new in-home care business, Visiting Angels to educate and help the community.
Sunny and Gagan Dhaliwal believe everyone should choose who looks after them when they need care.
They want people to feel safe and build connections with carers, across Coventry, Kenilworth, Rugby and surrounding areas.
Sunny started her career in adult social care, specialising in mental health and launching Visiting Angels has been a long-term ambition.
Gagan watched his grandfather who had dementia rely on care and has joined Sunny’s passion for making a difference in the care sector.
He said: “Something we noticed when we were helping loved ones who needed care was just how stretched the care system in the UK is.
“Carers deserve to have the resources to provide the level of service they’d want to see given to their own loved ones.
“If a carer doesn’t feel looked after themselves, they are going to be limited in what they can do to care for others.”
Caregiver turnover increased to 77 per cent in 2023 for reasons like low pay, poor working environment and too much responsibility.
Sunny and Gagan are determined to reform the industry’s conditions and are prioritising career development and real financial recognition as their business grows.
Sunny said, Visiting Angels ensures a minimum of one-hour visit, compensating the carers for travel time and mileage and offer vehicle servicing and they are hoping to have around 35 carers in the organisations first year.
She added: “Providing much-needed jobs and opportunities for our carers to progress and develop without worrying about how they’re going to afford to live.
“We’re committed to making a real difference in the lives of those we care for and those who provide that care.”
