Coventry encourages people to become foster carers this Christmas

Coventry Editorial 5th Dec, 2023   0

COVENTRY is one of 24 local councils to be encouraging people to become foster carers, writes Caitlin Valle.

The ‘Open Doors to Fostering’ campaign enables people to see what foster carers do to make Christmas extra special for their foster children.

The campaign began last Friday.

One foster carer – Nicola – has spoken about Christmas being an exciting time in her home and about how she plans everything to make it a fun and exciting time.

Coun Pat Seaman, Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We are proud to be one of the councils playing a part in this festive themed campaign.

“The build up to Christmas and the festive season is a special time for many of our foster carers as it creates happy memories for the children in their care, memories which are so important to celebrate together in a loving, caring environment.”

The council desperately needs more foster carers, especially in the Out of Hours scheme.

This scheme involves carers on a rota in case children need emergency support.

Coun Seaman added: “We appreciate that being a full time foster carer may not be a role some people can commit to, which is why we are asking people if they can take some time and see whether fostering is right for them on a part time basis.

“The Foster Team would love to hear from people who may not have considered the part time routine.”

People can visit coventry.gov.uk/foster to find out about Nicola’s fostering story and to find out more about making a difference through being part of the council’s fostering schemes.
