PLANNING permission has been given for the University Hospital Coventry for a cancer support centre to be built.

The new Maggie’s centre will provide support for people with cancer as well as friends and family and is hoped to be open by 2027.

Professor Andy Hardy, chief executive of UHCW NHS Trust, said: “The centre will make a real difference to patients who come here from across the area for treatment, as well as their family and friends.

“The patients we care for are often tired, stressed, and emotionally and physically drained by their illness, so I’m sure they will very much welcome having this fantastic facility and additional support from Maggie’s specialist staff, which is designed to complement the work we do here.”

Designed by Jamie Fobert Architects the centre will focus on well-being and sustainability, including the use of natural light and natural materials.

It will support 135,000 people living with cancer in the area.

Maggie’s now have 24 centres across the UK and is actively fundraising to deliver the centre in Coventry.
