Coventry landmarks lit up for organ donation week

Coventry Editorial 19th Sep, 2023   0

ICONIC Coventry landmarks have turned pink throughout this week to raise awareness about the essential need for organ donation.

Greyfriars Green, Christchurch Spire and Whittle Arch have been lit up since Monday as part of Organ Donation Week, which runs until Sunday, September 24.

Organ Donation Week is an annual campaign raising awareness about the ongoing need for donors.

This year, the campaign is aiming to get 25,000 more people to register to become organ donors.

Coventry’s support for the campaign comes after the city hosted this summer’s British Transplant Games.

More than 2,700 people gathered for the Games, making it the second biggest event since they started 45 years ago.

Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for health and sport, Coun Kamran Caan, said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to light up some of Coventry’s landmarks pink for Organ Donation Week.

“It’s so important to be aware of campaigns like this.

“Any form of engagement with the campaign is crucial, whether that is sharing messaging on the campaign or physically becoming a donor – it’s all hugely appreciated.

“We hope people enjoy seeing some of Coventry’s landmarks turned pink, but we also hope this helps people think about the fantastic cause behind it.”
