Coventry man gets 2024 off to bad start after being banned for drink driving

A COVENTRY man didn’t get 2024 off to a very good start after he was disqualified for drink driving on New Year’s Day.

Dylan Whittey from Briars Close, Coventry was banned from driving for 36 months after appearing at Coventry Magistrates Court.

The 39-year-old was charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis and obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of duty.

Whittey was also sentenced to a community order which includes a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement up to a maximum of 25 days that he must comply with by New Year’s Eve.

This comes after he was arrested at 3.55am on December 30 on Bilton Road, Rugby after recently leaving a pub in the town centre.

Officers pulled him over after seeing his manner of driving and, while smelling of alcohol, failed to provide a roadside breath test when officers asked.

He pleaded guilty in court and, taking this into consideration, the magistrate fined him £120 and ordered him to pay £135 costs and £114 victim surcharge.

Sgt Simon Dalby said: “We hope he takes some time to consider his sentence and makes a New Year’s Resolution never to drink and drive.”
