A COVENTRY man has been jailed for dangerously driving with a child in the car.

Demetrious Nickoloau, 27 from Bakewell Close, Binley was sentenced to 28 months in jail at Warwick Crown Court on Monday.

The jail term follows charges of assault, ill-treatment, neglect and abandoning a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury on August 24.

He was also sentenced to 14 months imprisonment to run concurrently for driving dangerously on roads.

His dangerous driving took place on Heath End Road, The Bullring and A444 Nuneaton.

Nickoloau has also been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 42 months.

He was driving without insurance at the time of the offences.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to all the offences, including failing to provide a specimen for analysis and driving whilst disqualified for which he was committed to prison for 10 weeks concurrent for each offence.

Nickoloau was arrested during a roads policing operation in Bedworth on August 24, after officers in a marked police car saw the driver of a black Audi A3 go through a red light.

Officers indicated for Demetrious to stop but he drove off at speeds of up to 75mph in a 30mph zone.

He also went through red lights and drove on the pavement in an attempt to avoid officers.

He was finally brought to a stop on the A444 towards Coventry when he was boxed in.

He attempted to ram his way out but was unsuccessful, and at 1.11pm he was arrested.

When officers spoke to Demetrious they realised there was a small 18-month-old child in the back seat.

The driver then failed to provide a drug test and officers also discovered the car was on false plates.

Demetrious was remanded in custody after appearing before Coventry Magistrates Court the next day, and his case was adjourned several times to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

A man was arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and another one was arrested as they were wanted by another force area.
