Coventry takes on memory walk to remember those with dementia

COVENTRY’S War Memorial Park was awash with blue on Sunday when the Alzheimer’s Society charity memory walk descended on the city.

Almost 600 people took part in the 6km walk raising an estimated £63,255 to provide help to people living with dementia.

Everyone who took part in the walk was raising vital cash to celebrate or remember a loved one.

The cash will be used to fund research and support people living with dementia through some of the hardest and most frightening times.

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer, with one in three people born in the UK going on to develop the condition in their lifetime.

It is estimated more than 84,000 people in the West Midlands are living with dementia.

Alzheimer’s Society Regional Manager in the West Midlands, Janice Le Tellier, said: “We are in awe of our incredible fundraisers, who turned out in their hundreds to support people living with dementia across the region.

“It was extremely moving to see so many people come together to honour or remember their loved ones. Every pound raised from the Coventry walk will make a huge difference.

“Supporters will be walking to fund faster diagnosis, ongoing support and vital research, helping people with dementia live more fulfilled lives now and in the future.”
