Coventry police highlight importance of spotting county lines

COVENTRY police officers have been ensuring people in the city can spot the signs of county lines.

Sgt Kulwant Eaves and her team highlighted the impact county lines can have on people’s lives during a talk at Warwick Lane Methodist Church’s Carers Trust Open Day.

The team were joined by Change Grow Live Coventry, Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, Crasac, Carers Trust and Healthwatch Coventry.

The event saw 70 people attend, which saw officers teach people how to spot the signs of exploitation to help protect vulnerable children and safeguard them from further criminality.

Sgt Eaves said: “Sometimes the signs of child exploitation may not be obvious and visible.

“Some of the signs you can look out for include a child carrying unexplained cash, designer gifts, a mobile phone; a child looking lost or travelling alone frequently during school hours or late at night and children who go missing frequently.

“Safeguarding groups and charities are a vital tool in the fight against county lines and we encourage members of the public to come forward with information to help those vulnerable people, including children, to be safeguarded.”
